Based on the operating and process default values, our experts in the areas of mechanical engineering and equipment technology determine the mechanical details of the equipment to be used. In addition to the fulfilment of the technological requirements, we are guided in all planning work, recommendations and selection decisions, foremost in issues of plant safety, conformity with your individual specifications, legal regulations and standards, and not forgetting the service life of the equipment and the cost-effectiveness of the complete System.

Equipment

The basic design of equipment forms the basis of all further steps: While the classification and categorisation according to PED provides the legal framework, the following factors should also be considered with respect to a mechanically correct operation:

  • Installation, erection and maintenance

On the basis of the basic engineering, in detail engineering we prepare the concrete requirement profile of the equipment and guidelines for the manufacturer in the form of specifications. These can consist of, amongst others, the following documents:

  • technical data sheets
  • inquiry and general arrangement drawings (master drawings)
  • pre-layout design (stability, internal pressure, allowable nozzle loads)

The level of detail and the scope of the prepared documents depend entirely on your individual needs.

We are happy to support you in the area of equipment procurement – including invitation to bid, bid evaluation and comparison. Or we can completely take over procurement depending on the type of project.

Equipment engineering

In the field of equipment engineering, single pieces of machinery as well as package units (PU) can be specified and inquired from potential manufacturers following process default values. According to the pre-selection of machine types and the boundary conditions, technical specifications are prepared, which constitute the basis for procurement, the execution and for the documentation requirements.

Contributing to the arrangement concept, installation and erection coordination, and supporting the commissioning, our experienced mechanical engineers implement all their professional knowledge in order to make the best use of the necessary machinery for the complete plant.

Our specialist staff begin the basic engineering of machinery based on the customer’s or process default values respectively. Our services to prepare the technical specifications are undertaken in close dialogue with the directly interfacing specialist trades such as process engineering, electrical  instrumentation and control Engineering as well as civil engineering. A first cost estimation for the procurement of equipment is a foundation for further investment decisions.

Based on the basic design, as part of the detail engineering, we will define the structural details of the machinery in such a way that the customer specified requirements (plant standards) are met, taking current standards and laws into consideration. All measures, which are necessary for later implementation, will be recorded in detail.

Following a successful order process for the equipment, our experts are also happy to take over the schedule surveillance and quality control (expediting) at the supplier, in addition to checking the technical compliance during manufacture. Therefore, delays during fabrication can be avoided and scheduling problems in the implementation can be detected and counteracted at an early stage respectively.

Strength calculations

In the field of strength calculations, the following base operations belong to our competencies:

  • Sizing of equipment in terms of the inner pressure
  • Verification for external loads from piping and attachments
  • Creation of stability certification for equipment
  • Leak tightness and strength certification for flange connections according to EN 1591-1 and VDI 2290

We provide strength tests for the pressure equipment to be used according to the technical regulations in AD 2000, EN 13445, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, PD 5500 or as per customer requirements respectively.

Surveying, analysis and evaluation of existing equipment

Dealing with the so-called “inventory” is part of our daily business in the same way as the design and selection of new equipment. We have comprehensive experience at our disposal in relation to changes to design data for existing pressure equipment. The elaboration of partial renewals, and the execution of “re-ratingexisting equipment due to changing operating conditions, are the core of our work.
